I grew up partly in a big city in Germany, but I don’t know how much this influences my work, I think it is more the years I spent in Italy where as a child I played in the countryside among animals and plants, I think it is this close relationship with Nature that nourishes my curiosity for materials, shapes and suggests respect for it. I always draw inspiration from its resilience, which allows me to experiment with new techniques and fabrics. I have retained just enough German humour and the need for a slightly serious minimalism. I grew up in a creative family; my mother, even though she knows what it means to earn money in a creative world with ups and downs, has always supported my choice to become a Fashion Designer, I learned a lot from her!
THE CONCEPT OF YOUR COLLECTION?
My collection, entitled Felted Emotions, is not surprisingly based on the increasingly topical concept of the imbalance between mind and body. In a world increasingly dominated by technology, we tend to abandon all responsibility, including responsibility for ourselves.
However, I wanted to suggest a solution, which I think we can find in close coexistence with Nature, a world of slow rhythms. For the collection, I created an innovative and completely sustainable material by using fruit waste from the market and obtaining a completely biodegradable fruit skin by drying. To express the conflict that exists between body and mind, I wanted to create garments that were very close to the body, or rather, that emphasised and imposed themselves on it. I therefore experimented with felt until I discovered a method that allowed me to sculpt a three-dimensional body without seams or darts, thus obtaining zero-waste patterns. I drew a lot of inspiration from photographs of abandoned houses that I had taken the previous summer. The still images depicting a bygone era made me think a lot about the exaggerated pace of our times.
WHAT ARE YOUR LUCIDITY PILLS?
I am still looking for them for myself. Every now and then I find myself writing, like a madwoman, sentences on a blank page that are supposed to calm me down and show me the right way forward. To name a few, I can only tell you to believe in yourself, always! Success is the ability to go from one failure to another without ever losing your enthusiasm.
