WHAT’S YOUR BACKGROUND?

Valechi as Valentina and Chiara (my daughter)… project from which my adventure started. An advertising graphic designer born behind the desks of the Artistico school, I have been creating with the computer for years, but I have always been curious and attentive to new artistic expressions and I approached collage to rediscover the manual skill that I had lost in my work. Collage is an experimental expression and in my work I play at composing with different materials, gauze coloured with natural pigments such as coffee, pomegranate or red turnips, paper coloured with inks, splashes of colour, brush strokes of paint, gold paste, recycled vintage and contemporary magazines and, of course, tears and scraps of paper of different structures. For me, a collage is a painting of colour, a composition that expresses itself with images, words and lettering, creating a more or less abstract graphic structure.

WHAT ARE YOUR SOURCES OF INSPIRATION?

My inspiration comes from the artistic avant-gardes of the early 1900s, which broke the mould and gave artists the chance to mix techniques, giving rise to surrealism.

I am inspired by Kurt Schwitter’s assemblages, Burri’s paintings, Motherwell, whom I adore, Rotella’s “everything” decollages, Dada, the Suprematism of the Russian avant-garde which influence my collages with their geometric shapes and essential colours, and finally Matisse’s cuttings which I hide in my compositions. Each collage is born without a precise order, it starts instinctively with an image and then explodes into a chaos that is gradually outlined, arriving at an organic composition.
