WHAT’S YOUR BACKGROUND?
Hi, we are Alessandro and Giovanna, Sunvitale is our handmade and handcrafted fashion brand officially born in 2020 in the street where we still live, San Vitale, Bologna. We met while attending the Fashion Design course at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. Right from the start we recognised ourselves in the same way of looking at fashion: we are interested in vintage, in pieces that can be found with a lot of patience in local street markets, in the fact that you can find something forgotten and give it a new life. During the first lockdown, however, we fell in love with crochet and from there Sunvitale took shape not only as a shared aesthetic but also as a real world of objects. During the quarantine days, we started to devote ourselves to our projects in a more precise manner, using yarns salvaged from the backrooms of historic shops, discarded fabrics… So at some point we discovered that yes, it had become a brand!
THE CONCEPT OF YOUR COLLECTION?
Sunvitale is our workshop and our garden. It is also a bit of a dreamy box in which yarns, imaginations, emotions, forgotten fabrics and what attracts us and surrounds us all mingle together. These are the materials we mainly work with.
We like romanticism, but with a certain irony, we like laughter that breaks the seriousness, we like colours that mix together. We like to try to pursue a project that is as sustainable as possible, that is green and that aims to use yarns and fabrics that are natural or that already exist but are unused. San Vitale is a fairly central street in Bologna and the rhythm of the city, its incisiveness, and the freedom of expression that one breathes are key elements of our continuous research. That is why it is like a garden: we take care of it and constantly try to give life to lively and joyful shapes, like those who, we hope, decide to wear them.
WHAT ARE YOUR LUCIDITY PILLS?
“We need a Mauri’s spritz! Bring pen and paper!”
When at some point we look at each other and say “that’s too sicura” or “troppo poco sbarazzino!!” we know it’s the right time to move to Maurizio’s bar to refresh our minds.
