WHAT’S YOUR BACKGROUND?

I was born in Milan in 1988. I studied Scenography and Illustration for publishing but I only started drawing with knowledge a few years ago. Perhaps due to poor study choices, I have been stuck at an expressive level for years, with quite a load of sense of inadequacy and incapacity. So when I finished my studies I decided that it was time to put aside everything that had been up to that moment and try to draw as it seemed to me and as I knew (I didn’t really know) that I could do. So began my research through drawing, especially as an instrument of self-awareness. I can say that drawing has in a way saved me from getting lost in a reality that little interested me; it helps me to be present to myself, and it is a sure proof of how the general trend of my person is going. When something is not clear, there is some bewilderment, I doubt myself, I take everything I have drawn, I look at it and it seems to me as if the drawing kept a trace, as if all that drawing said to me “oh there you are, this is you and you are right here, look!”. And I have to say that all this always saves me. Maybe this is also why I prefer to work in an analogical way, I need the gesture on the paper, the right time, even to make mistakes and not be able to do anything about it. I don’t have a favourite technique and
I often use more than one of them together.M like to experiment. Today I move in the field of independent art and illustration carrying on my personal research, in this period I am working on a series of artist’s books that I hope to show soon.

WHAT DO YOU GET INSPIRED TO CREATE YOUR ILLUSTRATIONS?

Everything and nothing. For me the creative process is like a sort of digestion, everything I “eat” is in my work so there is what I choose because I like it, it concerns me but there is also what I do not choose, that I do not like and that simply is there and needs to be “digested”. Without a doubt there is a lot of introspection.
