WHAT’S YOUR BACKGROUND?

1989 – Tricarico (Matera, Basilicata, that region between the plant and the heel of the Italy’s foot)

Graduated in art graphics at Brera and illustration at ISIA in Urbino. I changed thousand houses, cities and hairstyles but my lucanian accent remained the same. I like to live the places, to live a long time in the places I visit. Immersing myself in the diversity and variety of language, food and landscapes, smells and ways of living, mixing and soaking like a sponge of distant sensations and colors.

I am currently in Perù, in a small village in the middle of the sacred valley of the Incas, a place where they say that “todas la semillas brotan”. In a land that is teaching me much more than all the years of “study” sitting listening to lectures by pseudominimalist designers who, like Battiato, prefer salad. More than anything else I am learning to know myself better as a walking and existing breathing human being, like a seed, I am germinating. Well, the quarantine, that has turned into 100ena, is also teaching me enough about life and death, about the roots that walk with me looking for land to feed from.

WHAT DO YOU GET INSPIRED TO CREATE YOUR ILLUSTRATIONS?

I am inspired by places, people, situations, phrases, thought, songs, sayings of old ones, the incessant exploration of the territory of the woman’s body that I find myself wearing in this existence. The taboos, the limits, the ridiculous gender rules. I am inspired by my friends, especially in this period of lack of affection, I am inspired by my friends miles away and close inches, their deep reflections on what we are living, the events, inspire me.

By women. I am inspired by the women, the grandmothers, the mamite, who do, who are not afraid to be, who have an established role in this life and are not opposed to it. The guardians of sabiduria, of the earth, of the lunar cycles.
