WHAT’S YOUR BACKGROUND?
I am Michela Salvi. Born in the province of Bergamo, I moved first to Milan, to complete my studies at the Polytechnic in Fashion Design, and then to Venice, where I still live, to attend the Master’s degree in Fashion at the IUAV University. My interest in jewellery was born almost by chance, created by working alongside my father during the first lockdown. I started approaching this world using tin, and then switched to the lost wax technique, which allows me to experiment continuously. I am fascinated by the possibility of constant metamorphosis of the material.
THE CONCEPT OF YOUR COLLECTION?
I have not yet developed a real collection, all my creations are born at different times and mostly from actions governed by instinct.
I am very fascinated by illustrations, sea creatures and natural forms, but in the same way I could fall in love with an object found on land and use it to create a new form. For me the creative moment is the fundamental part of any project, it is by doing that I imagine and create, not by meticulously planning the details. I can spend hours working on a small detail, but I will never have thought of it before – it would take all the fun out of it.
WHAT ARE YOUR LUCIDITY PILLS?
Working on jewellery making because I enjoy doing it, and not because I feel constrained, makes me feel very free and makes me feel good. Taking time for yourself is fundamental, as is escaping from your habits, surrounding yourself with positive people with whom you can share your feelings. Sometimes even escaping.
