WHAT’S YOUR BACKGROUND?
To this day, when I think about my background, all the thoughts, paranoia, experiences, people and journeys, real and unreal, that have shaped me and continue to shape me, I am surprisingly impressed, excited and proud of how and where they have led me. Not that I was aware of it at the time, but I guess that’s how it works most of the time. My name is Andrea Lonigro, I am 25 years old, I come from Bari and I am not a designer. Growing up, I realised I had a great interest in clothing, I experimented with different ‘ways of dressing’ on myself, some of which make me smile when I think back. All this allowed me to have a much broader vision of fashion and its evolution, in the practical and conceptual, in fact let’s say I experienced my own personal cultural and social growth that does not include degrees or specific fashion studies. I arrived in Milan totally unaware of what direction my life would take and where it would lead me, but convinced of my desire to seek out new experiences and new stimuli. I immediately started a short specialisation course in Visual Merchandising with the aim of entering directly into the world of work, where I was lucky enough to meet my teacher, at the time, Bav Tailor, who through exchanges of ideas and simple reflections that seemed to find excellent feedback, made something new and unthinkable click in my head, namely the possibility of designing a brand. At the end of the course, I was introduced to my current friend and project collaborator Gianni Serra, a person for whom I have immense esteem and respect, a person of abysmal fashion culture and knowledge of the world of work. I will never stop thanking him, he had the courage to believe in the project right from the start and introduced me to the studio and workshop environment. I could observe and learn everything that goes on in a workshop and everything that goes into making garments, from the pattern-making process to the final packaging, it seemed like a dream. Finally, after years of research and development, he allowed me to create and officially present the Noskra brand to the world in 2020.
THE CONCEPT OF YOUR COLLECTION?
My sources of inspiration come from everyday life, from what I see and experience and what instinctively goes through my head.
I don’t always think it’s healthy, although useful at times, to look for inspirations that may be concepts or products from others, I try to make it a natural process. I believe that it is almost impossible to find something truly innovative, I have never wanted to create unique or overly articulated garments in terms of shape or structure that are only worn on certain occasions, perhaps beautiful but uncomfortable. I have always wanted to create something that can be worn by everyone and in any situation, with an idea of mental and physical comfort that is functional and obviously beautiful also aesthetically, but as you know this is subjective. The idea is to combine a structural design in terms of shapes, clean and minimal, with the design of the graphics, often tending towards brutalism, in this way I try to balance more minimalist garments with stronger ones to make the collections more versatile and fresh.
WHAT ARE YOUR LUCIDITY PILLS?
I honestly believe that sometimes lucidity can be detrimental, especially on a creative level, but I understand its importance in certain situations. What I feel like saying and what I think is simply that you have to live to be moved, beyond anything else, and that’s what personally drives me to do anything and give real meaning to life and its dynamics.
