WHAT’S YOUR BACKGROUND?

Hi, I’m Irene. I’m almost 33 years old and I’m from Parma. I studied Costume and Fashion in Rimini and after graduating I moved to Milan where I continued my fashion’s studies. I realized as I started working that I was missing something; I picked up the pencil and enrolled in an editorial illustration course. For the last six years I have worked as a set designer and illustrator. These are two works that I love and I find at the same time very complementary. I have often managed to combine them by creating illustrations for sets and events, almost always in fashion.

I’m self-taught: I started with classic illustrations on paper and then slowly moved to digital, learning to use different programs. By now the Ipad has replaced entirely manual work, there’s nothing better than being able to draw comfortably on my armchair with the cat on my legs in my little home jungle around me! In writing I’m terrible, I apologize. Let’s say it’s not my strong point to tell myself through words!

WHAT DO YOU GET INSPIRED TO CREATE YOUR ILLUSTRATIONS?

My subjects are mainly three: women, hands and nature.

The female subjects are mostly portraits of my moods, often without doing it on purpose my women look like me and tell what happens to me.  I feel very attached to the concept of femininity and girl power: we are undoubtedly special! The hands represent a part of our body that is able to communicate with the world and I really like to represent them to send messages. I am a great lover of flowers and plants: nature always excites me a lot. It relaxes me to draw flowers, for me they represent the perfection, balance and absolute beauty of our world. Of course, as for music, I go to periods with personal tormentors that vary from fixation for a color to more specific objects. In this period, for example, a bit strange and particular for everyone, I feel dreamy and spatial: I absolutely can’t do an illustration without stars and moons!

To all these elements I add a good dose of color and irony!
