WHAT’S YOUR BACKGROUND?

Giada Maestra was born in 1992 in Pordenone, Italy.

She grew up in an artistic environment thanks to her two brothers who have been involved in art and photography since she was a child. In 2017-2018 she was in Paris to assist the Italian photographer Alice Rosati. In 2018 she graduated in Fashion Design and Multimedia Arts at IUAV University of Venice, where she felt the need to deepen the study of drawing. The Parisian and the Venetian experiences have overwhelmed Giada with their continuous stream of images and have pushed her towards finding new techniques to convey her emotions into her drawings.

She’s currently based in London, where she works as a freelance illustrator.

WHAT DO YOU GET INSPIRED TO CREATE YOUR ILLUSTRATIONS?

My drawings gravitate toward the feminine world.

I love women and their bodies so I always try to give them a good representation. A lot of my references lie in female photography, I deeply respect and follow the work of artists like Alba Yruela, Guen Fiore and Brianna Capozzi.  I usually draw what I see, based on my mood and emotional state.

For example, in my last project Quarantine, I represent the different feelings I am experiencing during this particular and uncertain time we’re currently in.
