WHAT’S YOUR BACKGROUND?

I’m Elena Ciuprina, fashion illustrator and event artist. I work with luxury brands like Tiffany&Co, Bulgari, Loro Piana, Max Mara and Fendi.

I was born in Moldova, studied in Poland and now I work in Milan. My first memory of the fashion world was when I saw John Galliano’s show for Dior in 2001 on Fashion TV (thanks to the first cable television in Moldova). At the same time, I met a teacher who, thanks to her original style and the unstructured clothing she wore, stood out from the rest of the anonymous crowd. With her I realised that you can express your personality through what you wear, and I realised how much power clothes have and how much you can communicate through them. First I studied fashion design and then I did the Academy of Arts and finally I managed to combine my two greatest passions into the profession I love, fashion illustrator.

The greatest satisfaction of my life is being able to fulfil my childhood dreams of escaping the grey reality of a post-Soviet country and working in fashion.

WHAT ARE YOUR SOURCES OF INSPIRATION?

I take inspiration from personal experiences, fashion history, street photography, editorials and the atmosphere of fashion events.

I always keep my eyes open, I visit many exhibitions, I participate to events, I read books on fashion and design history, photography, artists’ biographies and I try to analyze each subject finding the points of connection.

WHAT ARE YOUR LUCIDITY PILLS?

Be curious like a child, stay open to the magic and beauty of the world around me. And of course sharing my art with people around, brands and clients!
