WHAT’S YOUR BACKGROUND?
I am Carolina Guzzi, I was born in Monza in a family with dad a goldsmith and gemologist and grandparents manufacturers of fabrics and ribbons. I have always loved the world of textiles, and my passion for fashion was later consolidated with the high school path of scenic costume design. In fact, I graduated from the high school of art in Monza with a specialization in scenography and later graduated in Design della monda at the Istituto Marangoni in Milan.
THE CONCEPT OF YOUR COLLECTION?
In 2021 I decide to found Bergotte. Bergotte is a woman but it is also an idea designed for office, working, dynamic women who want to stand out but without ever losing in perfection and elegance. The collection wants to give dynamism, movement to the female figure and is based on the philosophy of dressing “with sense and with awareness, with culture within a society dominated at times by the loss of a sense and perhaps a taste.” Bergotte starts from the main garments that constitute the work style and plays with prints, details and cuts founded on a precise artistic reference. Bergotte presents itself in the ready-to-wear world by aiming for an identifiable and minimalist bourgeois practicality. The brand bases its philosophy on four key concepts: time, quality, luxury and total Italian craftsmanship.
Luxury for Bergotte is the extreme care for quality, which cannot disregard respect for the environment. My main sources of inspiration revolve around my favorite designers and artists: from the Bauhaus school of knitwear with the works of Annie Albers to the statues of Alberto Giacometti and Louise Bourgeois to the paintings of Mark Rothko and the instal Ernesto Neto’s installations.
WHAT ARE YOUR LUCIDITY PILLS?
‘”Build a wardrobe rather than focusing on trends.”
I have always followed this phrase uttered by Phoebe Philo (one of my greatest sources of inspiration). The importance of choosing a wardrobe made up of quality essentials rather than focusing on quantity and trends is absolutely in line with my fashion philosophy.
