My name is Alessandra Bertoldi, I’m from Verona and I graduated in Fashion Design at the Italian Academy of Fashion Art and Design in Florence. In order to make this dream come true, I had to go “against” my family, who had other work projects in mind for me. Coming from a scientific high school they believed that the right way for me was to follow in the footsteps of my older sister. But I had a dream and I did everything I could to make it come true. After being able to convince my parents that this would be my path and I would do anything to prove it to them, I left in September 2016 for Florence to embark on the academic path. It has been the best three years of my (albeit still young) life. This new adventure helped me a lot to grow both personally and professionally, I lived with girls from all over the world and thanks to that I was able to open my mind by getting to know different cultures and customs. Florence will always remain my city of the heart, where I was able to undertake my path and realize, in part, my dream.
THE CONCEPT OF YOUR COLLECTION?
Fashion Su(ø)cks is the name of the collection I designed and created at the end of my academic course. The main protagonists are recycled tights, with which I have created some garments and accessories, thus giving them a new life.
The concept of recycling is based on the fact that the fashion industry is one of the most polluting in the world, but that’s not all. Tights are also the female garment par excellence, and I wanted to overturn their function by using them as real fabric, creating patterns with degraded shades. Very clean and sophisticated shapes contrast with the unusual use of sporty and heavy fabrics in neutral colours. All this combined with my concept of women, who live in a world where everyone is fighting for feminism and would like to emancipate themselves completely, but are blocked by a society with masculine foundations where they are constantly conditioned.
